Relapse Prevention

hands holding hands in relapse prevention

Addiction is a terrible disease that can impact all aspects of a person’s life, including the lives of friends and family. With the right tools, however, anyone can overcome addiction and take back control of their lives. Even though substance use disorder can lead to addiction, the disease is very treatable. At Integrative Life Center, we offer numerous treatment programs so individuals struggling with substance abuse can return to health. But once individuals have completed their treatment, ILC makes sure to provide resources to help maintain sobriety. Our relapse prevention programs allow individuals to make a lasting recovery.

Beating the Odds

Addiction is a chronic disease. This does not mean treatments are doomed to fail or that patients will inevitably relapse, but like any chronic condition, addiction management requires support and resources as unyielding as the disease itself. At Integrative Life Center, we stand by our patients at every stage. The National Institute on Drug Abuse found that 40-60% of drug addiction patients relapse, a rate similar to patients with other chronic diseases such as Type 1 diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. Relapse prevention is built into our integrated treatment programs to help patients conquer addiction once and for all. Our evidence-based treatments give patients the skills they need to recognize, cope with, and control relapse triggers. Through treatment that addresses all aspects of addiction and provides constant real-world support, Integrative Life Center helps patients prevent relapse for lasting health and wellbeing.

Overcoming Triggers with Relapse Prevention

A large part of relapse prevention involves recognizing and coping with addiction triggers. Therefore, stressful reminders of addiction, including people, places, things, and moods associated with the addiction, are the most common triggers for relapse. Sensory-based triggers, such as smells, may also initiate addiction. Every individual will have his or her own set of triggers unique to his or her addiction experience. Types of triggers include environmental, social, and emotional triggers. Emotional triggers include:

Relapse prevention teaches patients to identify and cope with various types of triggers for greater control over addiction.

How Integrative Life Center Can Help

At Integrative Life Center, we tailor relapse prevention services to each patient to address all aspects of addiction for lasting recovery. Treatment options include

  • Residential treatment: Individuals come to our inpatient program for an extended stay as they work through their substance abuse issues or mental health issues. Typically, a program lasts a minimum of 30 days.
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP): For individuals who can’t break away from work, school, or family responsibilities, but still need treatment, a PHP can be the answer. In this program, individuals come to a facility for several weeks, either days or nights, getting the therapy they need. However, they can return home and attend work.
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP): The next stage of treatment is IOP. Here individuals with less severe issues or how have already gone through treatment but may have suffered a setback can return to recovery. Individuals get concentrated care and treatment and return home daily, similar to PHP.
  • Aftercare: Once out of treatment, some individuals still need support and resources to maintain their sobriety. Aftercare can put individuals in touch support groups, alumni programs, and therapeutic communities.

Also, we use a vast array of therapeutic services to assist clients in not only healing but maintaining their sobriety once they complete treatment. For example, some of the therapies we offer include:

These and other therapies give individuals struggling with substance use disorder and those out of treatment working towards relapse prevention the support they need.
