The third home in East Nashville is sober living for men who are further along in their recovery but still want the accountability of sober living. As well as a women’s sober living home located just off Music row. You’ll have all the support of resident managers and other staff, but with less monitoring than at our Morning Star Residential-based Program.
Advantages of Sober Living
We believe that community is where healing happens and our supportive sober living homes provide all the benefits of community. You’ll have the emotional support of housemates on similar journeys along with structure to help you pick back up on the responsibilities of life. As you navigate your new sober life, the stable home environment of transitional living will help you learn new habits and routines while giving you a healthy environment to practice coping skills.
Structure of Sober Living
Sober living is all about being responsible for yourself and your behavior which is an important step in addiction recovery. The strength and support of your housemates and community are the key. You’ll do all the same things for yourself as if you lived in your own home such as buying your own food, paying rent and doing household chores. You may live in our supportive sober homes as long as you like while participating in our Music Row Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) with adherence to the structure and rules of the house. The primary rule, of course, is that you must stay sober.
- Attend three recovery/support meetings at your house each week
- Attend at least 5 weekly recovery meetings in the community and find a sponsor
- Assigned house chores
- Curfew and lights out
- Scheduled supper time
- House chores
- 24/7 resident manager
- Random drug screenings
- Clients provide their own food and transportation
- Pay rent on time
Supportive living also means you have a lot more of independence in your free time with accountability. You can visit with friends and family or enjoy the local Nashville community. As you progress with your recovery, your individual treatment plans will adjust to allow you wider opportunity to participate in outside activities.
A Typical Day
While realizing clinical work is a powerful tool in helping to confront our issues, and experiences in life, we have found that the treatment experience is far more effective when it is integrated into real-life settings. Our Music Row Recovery property is located on 25 beautiful acres in a retreat-like setting however, all clinical groups are held at our center on Music Row in Nashville. This allows for a healing living environment within a real world, real-life experience.
Monday through Friday from 9:00 – 3:00, you will be involved in daily groups (25 hours of clinical groups per week) as well as individual sessions with your therapist. You will be given the opportunity to experience and implement recovery skills in everyday situations as you join in local community happenings as part of the treatment process. Medical staff will be available throughout the week should you need medication of any kind or a referral for additional medical services. Nashville is a vast healthcare community and many of our men take advantage of the healthcare services while being in a safe and supported environment.
We know that receiving treatment in a program may not prepare you for real-life experiences, but at Music Row Recovery, real world opportunities will be presented to you as you live with other men in our residence. You will plan meals, as well shop for and prepare meals with your housemates daily. We also give you the opportunity to engage in art, music, nature, life skills, and recovery support meetings in tandem with group and individual therapy. These real life experiences will assist you in gaining stability and choosing a life path you desire.
Community is a key step to recovery, we are not alone in our challenges in life, and a diverse group of men is an effective gift to healing. You will experience a wide array of meetings including Smart Recovery, a variety of 12 Step meetings, and Against the Stream Buddhist recovery meetings. We also offer sweat lodges and other ceremonies should you desire to expand your support network. We are here to offer a safe and supportive place for your recovery, we are not here to tell you how to recover. We will offer tools to aid you, but we know each man will have his own path to recovery. We are here to help find your heart’s calling.
It takes a brave man to know when it is time to seek healing and recovery, there is no shame in admitting you need help. The only way to really know our truth is to walk through the world as a community, with self-respect and love. Our issues do not define us; the way we rise above those issues as human beings and find our own truths is what defines us. Whether it is healing past traumas or addictions through somatic breath work, expressing grief through a mosaic in our art room, or kayaking down the Piney River and enjoying living healthy for the first time in a long while, we will help you find the path that is right for you on the journey of recovery.
Clients are provided with a medical evaluation upon admission, access to psychiatric care and medical staff, and assistance with medication management.
Our Master’s level clinicians facilitate therapeutic individual, gender separate group, and family work. We use evidence based therapies such as CBT, EMDR, DBT, somatic work, motivational interviewing, process groups, equine and adventure based, experiential modalities.
Clients receive complementary therapeutic approaches in an effort to encourage body, mind, and spirit integration. Therapies include breath work, yoga, mindful meditation, massage, body work, art, music, and acupuncture.
