Join us each month as we bring in local and national talent to share some of the most cutting edge and exciting therapy approaches in our field and earn 3 hours of continuing education.

With the new change in the DSM to formally recognize Binge Eating Disorder as a diagnosis, we are already seeing a change in how people talk to their clients about treatment. In the past, health care professionals tended to refer their BED clients to weight loss programs or OA because they were not sure what to do with them. Now, clinicians are thinking in terms of BED being a true Eating Disorder. This allows for more people with this diagnosis to consider treatment as a valid option. In order to best treat this population, we need to understand the diagnosis, have treatment options that are effective, and understand the role of perception in the Eating Disorder population.

Our focus will be for you to:

1. Understand the new DSM-V diagnosis of Binge Eating Disorder and implications for treatment.
2. Learn techniques for addressing Binge Eating Disorder.
3. Learn the importance of perception in addressing eating disorders.
4. Address the personality style of BED clients and the ways they have sacrificed themselves in exchange for food.

About our Speaker:

Tammy Holcomb, MS, EdS, LPC: Is a native of Savannah, GA, and earned her Master's Degree in Community Counseling and Specialist Degree in Counseling Education from Georgia State University in Atlanta. Tammy began working with the Eating Disorder Community in 1987 on an acute care inpatient eating disorder unit at a psychiatric hospital in Atlanta. For 19 years she ran her own private practice, Stargazer Counseling, and was widely recognized in the metro Atlanta area for her work in treating sexual trauma, eating disorders and addictions. In 2012, Tammy moved to North Carolina to join the Carolina House team and now serves as Executive Director.
