About Acupuncture for Recovery
Seven Directions has a driving passion for assisting individuals to achieve personal freedom and recovery from addictions and emotional trauma. We are members of National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) and Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB). Utilizing the NADA 5-Point auricular acupuncture protocol we can treat the symptoms of behavioral health issues, addictions, mental health, disaster and emotional trauma.
Clinical research has shown that acupuncture is effective in reducing acute and post-acute withdrawal and craving symptoms associated with alcohol, opiate, and cocaine dependence, as well as symptoms associated with most other addictions: sleep disturbance, headaches, body aches, sweating, muscle cramps, nausea, anxiety, depression, and stress.
Acupuncture has been found to have a balancing effect on the autonomic and neurotransmitter systems which reduces substance cravings. It is a non-verbal, non-threatening modality that has an immediate calming effect on patients regardless of the specific substance used and whether or not a co-existing psychiatric disorder has been diagnosed.
Acupuncture offers the unique feature of more expansive protocols to address physical and psychological conditions that may have been precipitating factors in chemical dependency, such as chronic pain, grief, depression, and trauma. This can be especially helpful in the treatment of dual diagnosis clients, since acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression, chronic anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other mental disorders.
Clinical acupuncture for recovery is a safe, effective, cost-efficient modality that can easily be integrated with all phases of conventional psychosocial and (if applicable), pharmaceutical rehabilitation.
1. What is AcuDetox?
AcuDetox is a specialized form of acupuncture and is performed by placing five thin, hair-like, sterile, single-use needles in each ear. The needles are generally left in place for 35 – 45 minutes. AcuDeox supports the treatment and recovery process by making the client stronger from the inside. After a treatment, the client is usually calmer and more focused for participation in the counseling process, and for group meetings such as AA and NA. AcuDetox treatment is a non-verbal process. Once needles have been placed in each ear, simply sit back and relax in a comfortable chair; the needles will do the rest! Even if you don’t believe that the treatment will work or help you, it’s OK; the treatment will be just as effective. In other words, you can be skeptical and the treatment will still provide a powerful benefit.
2. What do the five AcuDetox points do?
The points correspond to specific organs, including the lungs, liver, kidneys and nervous system. The treatment triggers the release of natural body chemicals, including endorphins, which help reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms and increase relaxation. The treatment relieves the following: stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, restlessness, fear, anger, muscle cramps and frustration. The treatment also aids in the processes of clear thinking and decision-making, as well as with the management and balancing of grief/sadness.
3. Who benefits from AcuDetox?
Individuals suffering from PTSD, alcoholism and addiction to opiates, cocaine/crack, methamphetamines, marijuana, and prescription drugs. Acudetox is very effective for treating the core issues of addiction such as trauma, mental illness and long-term illnesses. This treatment protocol is safe for pregnant women in recovery or harm-reduction programs.
4. What is Sleepmix/Detox Tea?

Also reported to calm and soothe the nervous system, stimulate circulation, and aid the body in the elimination of waste.
